Tithing to the Local Church
Storehouse tithing is God's common-sense way of growth.
Everyone gives to the Church, God's institution on earth, and together enough is gathered to preach the gospel and to help fulfill Christ's commission.
The Church is (1) God's place for celebrating the symbols of redemption--baptism and the Lord's Supper; (2) the central place where Christians assemble ( "church" means assembly); (3) the place where the people bring their tithes and offerings.
The three purposes cited above are clearly observed in this passage:
You must not worship the Lord your God in their way. But you are to seek the place the Lord your God will choose from among all your tribes to put his Name there for his dwelling. To that place you must go; there bring your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, what you have vowed to give and your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks. There in the presence of the Lord your God, you and your families shall eat and shall rejoice in everything you have put your hand to, because the Lord your God has blessed you. (Deuteronomy 12:4-7)
A tithe is literally a "tenth part". Tithing is an issue of obedience,
commitment, and blessing opportunity.( Mal. 3:10) Through the tithe God has provided a method for all His children to give equitably. Whether you make a lot of money or little, your tithe is 10% and is honored equally in the sight of God. We are to offer back to God what He requires of us before we pay or give to anything or anyone else (Proverbs 3:9-10; Gen 14:18-20; 28:20-22)
The Altar of God
An offering is a sacrificial contribution; a demonstration of your love for God for His goodness shown towards you, for God loves a cheerful giver. (II Corinthians 9:7)
Luke 6:38 " Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you."
God also instructed the Israelites to bring an offering to the "place" and put it on the alter.
When you have entered the land the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance and have taken possession of it and settled in it, take some of the firstfruits of all that you produce from the soil of the land the Lord your God is giving you and put them in a basket. Then go to the place the Lord your God will choose as a dwelling for His Name and say to the priest in office at the time. "I declare today to the Lord your God that I have come to the land the Lord swore to our forefathers to give us." The priest shall take the basket from your hands and set it down in front of the altar of the Lord your God. ( Deuteronomy 26:1-4)
